About 305 (Ashford) Squadron

From wartime heritage to today’s youth development, discover our story and mission.

Our History

The number 305 carries a proud legacy. It was first used by No. 305 (Polish) Bomber Squadron, formed in 1940 and flying Wellington bombers in night operations against Germany. That unit embodied courage and international cooperation, serving with distinction until its disbandment in 1947.

In Ashford, the spirit of 305 lives on through 305 (Ashford) Squadron RAF Air Cadets. Established as part of Kent Wing, our squadron parades at the Army Reserve Centre and continues the tradition of service and aviation. Twice a week, young people aged 12–17 gather to take part in flying, adventure training, fieldcraft, and community service, experiences that build confidence, resilience, and leadership.

Nationally, the RAF Air Cadets were founded in 1941 and have grown into one of the UK’s largest youth organisations, with nearly 43,000 cadets supported by 10,000 adult volunteers across more than 1,000 squadrons. 305 Squadron is proud to be part of this network, offering Ashford’s young people the chance to challenge themselves, gain skills, and make lifelong memories.
